Privacy Policy
Last updated: 12 October 2026
We collect as little as we can and keep your media private by default.
This policy is being finalised with legal advisers and may change before general launch.
Who we are
ReCut is designed and run by David Harlock, who is the data controller for the service. You can contact us about privacy through the Report page.
What we collect
Account details: your email address and sign-in information.
Workspace content: projects, timelines, titles and the media you upload, kept in private storage.
Technical records: error and processing logs used to keep the service running and secure.
People watching your videos
When someone watches or shares a video, we count it using a random key that changes daily and is stored as a one-way hash. We do not store viewers' IP addresses or names with these counts.
Advertising and consent
Free videos may include ads. Unless a viewer agrees to personalised advertising, ads are limited and non-personalised, and Google is asked not to store data on their device. Viewers can change this choice at any time.
How long we keep data
Working copies of your media stay until you delete them. Original uploads are kept according to your plan: 7 days on Free, 30 days on Pro, and until you delete them on Enterprise.
Copyright notices and related records are kept as long as needed for legal reasons, with personal details removed where possible.
Who helps us
We use trusted providers for hosting, databases and storage, video processing in the cloud, and advertising (Google). Payment providers will be added when paid plans launch. Each only receives what it needs.
International transfers
Some providers process data outside the UK and EU. Where they do, we rely on recognised safeguards such as standard contractual clauses.
Your rights
You can ask to see, correct, export or delete your personal data, or object to how we use it. You can also complain to your local data protection authority, such as the ICO in the UK.
Changes to this policy
If we make significant changes we will update the date at the top and, where appropriate, let you know by email or in the app.
